Every time we see the lemonade stand in the American movies we desperately need a glass of this refreshing beverage.
Here’s the recipe for the Authentic Homemade Lemonade!
1 cup of tap water;
1 cup of white sugar (for a less sweet version you can use 3/4 cup);
1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (you need either 3 very big lemons, or up to 6 medium ones);
a few slices of lemon or lime, as decoration (optional);
5 cups of chilled mineral water, still or sparkling, to dilute the concentrated lemonade.
The doses indicated in this recipe follow a 1:1:1 ratio between water, sugar and lemon juice. You may increase, or decrease, the original quantities accordingly.
In a small pot, pour 1 cup of tap water and add the sugar.
Mix and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring from time to time, until the sugar dissolves completely in the water and creates a syrup.
Turn off the stove and let cool down, until the syrup reaches room temperature.
Squeeze the lemons in a juicer, avoiding any seeds.
Pour the lemon juice in a jug, together with the syrup, to create your concentrated lemonade.
The standard proportions are 1 part of concentrated lemonade to 4 or 5 parts of still or sparkling mineral water. Adjust them according to your personal taste.
Now, fill your glass with ice cubes and decorate with fresh lemon slices or mint sprigs.
Your concentrated lemonade can be refrigerated for a couple of days.
The most challenging variation on this authentic recipe and, yet, the most delicious one calls for the essential oils contained in the lemon skin.
Rub the sugar needed for the preparation against the skin of your lemons before using it or, alternatively, cut some pieces of lemon peel (remove the bitter white part!) and put them in the pot with the syrup, until they release their amazing aromas.
Remove the lemon peel and mix your enhanced syrup with the freshly squeezed lemon juice to create a full-bodied version of your concentrated lemonade.
Our authentic homemade lemonade recipe is so easy that you can even teach your kids how to make it!
Perhaps, they will decide to open their own, American-styled lemonade stand…right in front of your house!
